BSN Nursing

BSN Admission Information

We at San Jacinto College are excited to help you take the next step in your nursing career. As you prepare to apply for our BSN program, it’s important to understand our application requirements. This will help you put your best foot forward. Let’s dive in!

Application periods:
Fall applications: April 17 - July 17
Spring applications: Sept. 15 - Jan. 5

How to Apply

After you’ve been admitted to San Jac, follow these steps to prepare for your program. By the way, if you haven't applied to San Jac, you'll need to do that first.

The BSN program begins each fall and spring semester. Designed for working RNs, all classes are 100% online. Clinical and/or community hours are in-person.

If you have any questions or just want to talk to someone about the program, please reach out to us.
  1. Admissions Criteria

We’re excited to have you join our program. To get started, we recommend reviewing the BSN nursing handbook, which provides detailed information about every aspect of the program. Below are the standards you’ll need to meet to qualify.

    • Have an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) degree from an accredited institution. Priority acceptance is given to San Jacinto College's ADN graduates (in the next step, we outline conditional admission to the RN-to-BSN program).
    • Hold a grade of C or higher in all previous nursing transfer courses.
    • Hold an unencumbered Texas RN licensure. Remember that your licensure must be valid throughout the program.
    • Be currently employed as a professional nurse with employment verification required. This requirement is deferred for new graduated associate degree in nursing (ADN) applicants.
    • Submit a letter of recommendation from your current supervisor or former nursing faculty member.

  2. Conditional Admission for ADN Graduates

If you are completing the San Jacinto College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program, you may qualify for conditional admission to the RN-to-BSN program while you finish your NCLEX-RN exam.

With conditional admission, you can begin the program by enrolling in your first 8-week course. To stay enrolled, you must submit the following documentation before the start of your second 8-week course:

    • Proof that you passed the NCLEX-RN

    • Verification of a current, unencumbered Texas RN license (your license must remain active throughout the program)

    • Verification of current employment as a professional nurse (employer letter required)

  3. Get Your Pre-Reqs in Order

Make sure you’ve completed, or are in the process of completing your pre-requisite courses. For a detailed list, please review this outline.

You can still apply even if you haven’t finished every course yet. Just keep in mind that your application won’t reflect final grades, which could make your admission into the program more challenging. You’ll also earn more points on our admissions rubric for courses you’ve already completed.

Because of this, we recommend finishing as many prerequisites as possible before applying. Doing so not only strengthens your application but also sets you up for success in the upper-level nursing courses once you’re in the program.

  4. Apply to the BSN Program

You'll need your student ID (G number) and login information to apply. Pro tip: If your application times out, close all browser windows and try again or open the application link via InPrivate Window (Edge) or InCognito Window (Chrome).

  5. Employment Verification Form

Our program requires that you are currently employed as a professional nurse. If you are employed, please complete the BSN employment verification form.

New graduate nursing students should download the employment verification form once they become employed and email it to sanjacbsn@sjcd.edu

  6. Katha and Clifton Black Endowed Scholarship

BSN students are eligible to receive a scholarship from the Katha and Clifton Black Scholarship. Log in with your student ID and password, then complete the application.

Note: After clicking "Apply for Scholarship," click the blue button labeled “Sign in” at the top right of the screen. This will start the application process.
